About Us

IT and ITES sector is the largest contributor to the growth of the nation today and it is highly critical that this industry is safeguarded by all.

While the country has witnessed a lot of growth today due to the IT and ITES industry, however not much is being done to ensure sustainability specifically from the employee perspective. While IT and ITES employees contribute a significantly towards the taxes collected, yet till date neither the elected Governments nor the Ministry of HRD have announced any programs or initiatives specifically aimed to benefit the IT and ITES employees on the long term. Not just IT/ITES, but there seems to be no vision from the Government for the entire White Collared workers employed in the Private Sector.

Demand for increasing business productivity and profitability, and juggling with inflation and managing the gradually lowering revenues from new customers (in the context of recession and economically volatile situation) has hit every individual employee at all levels of an organization as well as every citizen (directly or indirectly). Without a doubt, such challenges have also impacted the organization/employers too. However NASSCOM has always ensured that the IT and ITES industry is able to influence the Government and its agencies to work to the benefit of the IT and ITES companies.

Incompetent mid-management and myopic executive management is being blamed as the root cause of all employee stress.

Despite several decades of existence, unfortunately till date the IT and ITES employee community has no guardian or protector. Neither NASSCOM, nor the Ministry of HRD, Ministry of IT, BT & ST, or even the Labour department. The result has been that there has been a reported increase in the number of IT and ITES employees committing suicide, suffering nervous breakdowns or even having family and personal relationship issues.

Today every white collared employee feels threatened of the future. Stress is a common thing that everyone in the industry has to deal with on a daily basis. Displacement of employees (through unplanned and completely avoidable urbanization) is creating a lot of pressure on the society and each individual alike.

Today, more than ever there is a need to organize the employees together. There is a need to ensure that the literate masses are aware of their rights and work to safeguard the IT and ITES industry is a long term sustainable.

In the absence of a watchdog or association to protect the rights and interests of individual employees, there is huge fear amongst employees that there is a possibility that the company can fire an employee citing poor performance or indiscipline. This is prevalent from the fact that while India today has millions of people employed in the IT and ITES industries no association could be formed with the fear of retribution from the management.

Many employees are fearful that forming or joining an association will not only be a reason that they could be discriminated in their current organization, they may also not get hired by other organizations.

 

Objectives / Mandate

Ensure sustainability of the ITES industry by preventing exploitation of either employee or employer for short term gains.

Voice of the IT and ITES employees is heard and addressed at NASSCOM, Ministry of HRD, Department of IT, BT, ST and the Department of Labour.

Ensure the benefits of ITES industry to cover the entire nation by including rural areas in the IT and ITES growth. (Ensure that the benefits of growth and progress of the nations does not remain restricted to select metropolitan cities only).

Create and promote a forum of people that are driven by a passion to bring about changes within the nation through affordable eGovernance and low cost technology enablement for the benefit of the nation. A forum that can provide technology to fight corruption at all levels in the society by designing and developing cost effective eGovernance solutions based on open source software.

Actively promote the adaption of Open Source Software across the nation. Put forth efforts to spread awareness of Open Source in schools, colleges and residences specifically. Encourage crowd sourcing and promote the culture of innovation and creativity.

Serve the role of a watch dog of the IT and ITES industry to safe guard the long term and short term interests of employees and the nation as a whole.

Ensure that Organization HR policies are drafted and implemented shall not compromise employee interests and benefits.

Reach out and help any individual member who is facing issues with governmental agencies, work place issues or if needed facilitate and or provide the necessary moral support and counselling where ever required on family/personal issues too.

Strive to change the perception that India is a source for cheap IT labour, instead be seen as a source of excellent quality of technical, innovative and creative manpower provider.

Our Immediate Needs

Pension plan for the IT and ITES employees. The Government (HRD, IT &BT) and Company Managements should chalk out a pension plan to ensure a dignified, decent and secure retirement.


A social security plan to protect employees that get laid off. The Government and company managements should arrange an appropriate system to provide financial support as well as access to upgrade the skills of such employees through appropriate trainings and development. The company management should ensure that all options to train and employee on additional skills have been considered and lay off / replacement be the last option.


Training and Development should be strongly promoted. The Government should provide tax rebates to encourage training and development of employees. Individual employee as well as the organization or employer should realize tax rebates on the cost incurred for training and development. This move shall help in continuous development and growth of employee, employer and the Indian IT and ITES industry as well.
